Who we are…
The Adult Educators’ Provincial Specialists Association was established after an inaugural conference held in October 1996. The BCTF Executive passed a motion to establish AEPSA on February 2, 1997.
AEPSA members currently pay an annual membership fee of $20, and must also be members of the BCTF. Non-BCTF members can attend conferences or participate in other activities and subscribe to the newsletter, but they cannot represent the PSA on the Executive. The subscription fee for non-BCTF members is $40.42 and includes GST. The higher fee is to reflect the fact that BCTF members already support the PSA with their union membership dues.
Most AEPSA members work in a school district adult education program. These programs include: Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Literacy, Adult Foundations, General Education Development (GED), Grade 10 Completion, English as a Second Language (ESL) or English Language Services for Adults (ELSA), High School Completion (HSC) or Adult Secondary School Completion (ASSC), and Adult Special Education (ASE).
AEPSA Goals
- To facilitate communication and an exchange of ideas between adult educators;
- To increase Professional Development opportunities for adult educators;
- To strengthen recognition of adult educators as professionals;
- To establish a standard of professional preparation for adult educators;
- To advocate on behalf of adult students and adult educators;
- To facilitate the development and distribution of appropriate adult-oriented learning materials;
- To encourage and assist adult educators in becoming actively involved in the decision-making that effects their students and their profession.
